‘Lift’ is a solo audio-visual performance by Tapage, integrating visual and sonic elements as they are entangled in a recursive loop. A large white sheet of fabric forms the backdrop of the performance as it dances to the turbulent airflow provided by two fans. In return, the shapes of the fabric and the spinning fans are the main ingredients in the musical processes that employ recursive methods to amplify and modulate these movements. During the piece, the performer wears a garment that is covered with LED lamps that light up the wavering motions of the textile. ‘Lift’ displays the tension, fragility, and abrasive force as a chaotic system lifts up through turbulence toward an inevitable collapse.
