Tijs Ham - Tapage

I am a Dutch sound artist currently living in Bergen, Norway. My artistic practice focuses on the sonic arts through recordings and audiovisual live electronics. My current focus is on post-human co-creation through an Artistic Research titled ‘Song of the Living Circuit,’ creating new cybersonic sound works with slime molds.

Under the pseudonym Tapage, I have released music on various internationally renowned record labels. Currently, my music is published by the Oslo-based record label CASE Records. In the past, my music has appeared on labels such as Tympanik Audio, Ant-Zen, Adnoiseam, Moving Furniture Records, Point Source Electronic Arts, Meta4 Recordings, and countless others. Check out the music section to listen to my releases.

For many years, I was employed at STEIM (The Studio for Electro-Instrumental Music in Amsterdam). There were many opportunities to initiate projects within my position as a producer of events and as a member of their artistic board. Where possible, my approach was to establish connections between the residency programs, workshops, concerts, research agendas, and the educational events that STEIM initiated throughout the years.

My artistic practice revolves increasingly around audiovisual approaches to live electronic music, with a particular interest in exploring chaotic processes. I design and build my own unique instruments and perform with them within structured improvisations. My current interests revolve around implementing living circuits in my instruments and exploring the sounds of systems that are alive. Check out the portfolio section for more information on my projects.

I have successfully finished my research, Tipping Points, as a Ph.D. in Artistic Research at the Music Department of the University of Bergen. Through this artistic research program, the opportunity arose to connect to the broader Norwegian network of musicians, composers, visual artists, coders, makers, designers, and other creative researchers. I have been fortunate to join several boards, including Playdate, nyMusikk Bergen, DIKU, and research-oriented boards within the KMD/UiB.
