Artistic Research - Cybersonic Instruments - Experimental Music

My name is Tijs Ham, although some know me as Tapage. I am a Dutch Sound Artist and Researcher, currently living and working in Bergen, Norway. My artistic practice is situated in the field of live electronic music, building instruments, and creating noise. My instruments are volatile, unstable, chaotic, fragile, vulnerable, and poetic. I play audiovisual performances, record albums, and research the notions of chaos and emergence in relation to music and meaning.

Last year, I finished a Ph.D. in Artistic Research at the University of Bergen. I am currently a mentee in the Bridge Mentorship Program 2024. I am the co-founder of the Bulldozer noise concert series, and I am on the board of Playdate and part of the leader group of nyMusikk Bergen. My latest audio-visual performance is titled ‘Shimmer’ and was premiered in April of this year. In September, I am releasing a new vinyl record with Guro Kverndokk on CASE Records.

“What first seemed like a cacophony of disparate noises appears to display a wondrous sense of asymmetric balance. Recurrence, absent of repetition. A new sonic landscape transforms the pliability of the instrument that produces it.”

“An instrument capable of reinvention. A machine creating differences, not just affecting itself, but through its intricate vibrations, able to change everything it encounters.”
